I undertake independent assessments in a variety of areas and write reports for the courts relating to cases involving capacity (especially in older adults and those with cognitive disorders) and reports for asylum and immigration matters.

  • Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders

  • Mood (affective) disorders including bipolar disorder and depressive disorders

  • Dementia and other cognitive disorders

  • Neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in adults. 

  • Mental disorders in immigrants (including refugees and asylum seekers)

RELEVANT EXPEREINCE

I am approved section 12 (2) doctor and an Approved Clinician.

I have good experience in writing court reports as an expert witness and as a witness of facts for patients with various mental disorders, specifically those with cognitive impairment, dementia or complexity in later life.

 

I regularly undertake capacity assessments as part of my daily clinical work with patients with various stages of dementia and write reports concerning testamentary capacity. I also write psychiatric reports to immigration and asylum tribunals on refugees and asylum seekers with severe mental disorders, including complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

  •  I regularly participated in local Postgraduate Medical education talks (weekly online events in Norfolk) and gave talks on various clinical topics, such as the mental health of asylum seekers and refugees and cultural aspects of psychiatric practice.

  •  I presented a talk on the mental health of asylum seekers and refugees for the University of East Anglia’s Refugee Week in March 2022.

  •  I gave a one-hour online talk on cultural aspects of psychiatric practice to Devon Partnership psychiatrists in May 2021.

  •  I also presented two online training sessions (each session was for 90 minutes) for Doctors of the World UK, one on risk assessment in October 2021 and one on psychosis in November 2022.

  •  I participated as a speaker for three consecutive years in the 20th, 19th, and 18th National Conferences on Dementia (Dementias 2018, Dementias 2017 and Dementias 2016) organised by MA Healthcare and chaired by Prof Alistair Burns and Prof Tom Arie. My talks were (three cases from Old Age Psychiatry in Norfolk, 2018), (From Baghdad to Norfolk: A journey in the life of a refugee doctor, 2017) and co-presented three cases with acute cognitive impairment without delirium with Dr Andrew Tarbuck (Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist) in 2016.

  •  I presented a talk on the role of medication in dementia in a public event organised by the University of East Anglia and Alzheimer’s Research UK on 14 June 2017.

  •  Other speakers in this event included Professor John O’Brien from Cambridge and Mr Robin Brisbourne (Communications Manager – Science Media and Engagement- Alzheimer's Research UK).
